Wizards: Tales of Arcadia Review
Wizards is the third series in the Tales of Arcadia Universe and it focuses on specifically the magical
side of the world. Specifically, this series has Merlin's apprentice Hisirdoux otherwise known as
Douxie as the main character. This series takes place right after the events of the second series in the
Tales of Arcadia Universe: 3Below thus all events in the previous two series are connected. A majority
of the series is a time travel story where Douxie, Claire, Steve, and Jim find themselves sent 900 years
into the past where Camelot once was which coincidentally is where Arcadia is in the present. It was
very interesting to see the strained relationship that humans and trolls found themselves in where
Arthur was on a crusade to kill all trolls. But ultimately, the most important relationships are between
Douxie & Merlin, Merlin & Morgana, and Morgana & Arthur. They are the most engaging and
prominent driving factors for the story. Despite all the Tales of Arcadia basically following the same
formula of a coming of age story, I thought that this was well done and the elements that make up the
story was very interesting and fresh. One major concern for me was that the pacing felt weird because
7 of the 10 episodes are dedicated to the time travel portion in Camelot and the conclusion for that arc
felt like a season end for me. But it wasn't and the remaining 3 episodes were even a bigger conclusion
for the overall plot that was set up in the first episode, with the fate of the world at stake again. The
Camelot story and the main story are both connected but also have different goals and objectives that
the good guys have to accomplish making the two portions of the series feel disjointed and not part of
the same season. Honestly, I felt that this season was at least 2 seasons worth of story but it got
crammed into 1. The Camelot portion of this season gave a lot of backstory to Merlin, the first troll
hunter, Morgana and various other things in the Tales of Arcadia Universe. One of the biggest
highlights for me was the battle for Killahead bridge, which was my favorite action sequence in the
entire series, this sequence also gave one of the darkest scenes in the series with Sir Lancelot getting
butchered by Bular in front Steve.
Overall I thought Douxie's character arc was one of the best out of all of the series in the universe and
the story was pretty good despite it feeling disjointed in terms of pacing after the Camelot arc. The
animation is better than ever compared to the first series in the universe and in comparison to the other
Dreamworks series, I would say it is around the upper half in terms of quality. I would give this series
an 8 out of 10 in terms of enjoyment, I do have to say though the first season of Trollhunters is still my
favorite out of all the Tales of Arcadia series. If you have been following the Tales of Arcadia series,
you will definitely enjoy this series, but if you haven't please watch Trollhunters and 3Below first
before watching this series.
