Glitch Techs Review
Glitch Techs a Netflix original animated show created by Nickelodeon is a love letter to gaming.
It is a show about two teenagers named Five and Miko who are hardcore gamers that get recruited to
a Men In Black like-organization that fight against game glitches instead of aliens. Like MIB, they
have cool gadgets including the ability to mind wipe people which is straight up from MIB, not to
say its a bad thing, in fact, it totally works with the premise of the show. Initially going into this show
I thought that it would be more gear towards kids, but although it does appeal to kids there are a lot
of things such as references that people who grew up playing games in the 80s & 90s would
appreciate that kids now wouldn't know about it. For instance, one episode is entirely dedicated to
Castlevania and throughout the series there is chock-full of references to all types of games not just
Castlevania such as Dragonquest, Pokemon and Metal Gear Solid. The writing is also likewise full
of jargon from RPGs and gaming in general. The series as a whole is a cross between episodic and
continuous storyline. Meaning it can be watched jumping into random episodes if someone wants but
also things still carry over from previous episodes to the next. But in terms of major plot points, there
is not much that isn't resolved by an end of an episode and the continuous growth of our two main
characters. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed the show, but there is no major storyline like
defeating a main antagonist and that is not a problem. The show does hint and set up some plot
points that could lead into major things in future seasons but as of the first season which consists of 9
episodes their isn't a major storyline. The supporting characters such as Mitch and Phil are also well
written despite just filling the role of bully and boss. Other characters that appear in and out of
episodes are not really fleshed out but are likable regardless. Although I haven't really touched upon
the action of the show, there is plenty of it and it is very fun to see all the types of glitches that our
main cast has to fight against. Overall whether you are a kid or in your 30s as long as you play and
appreciate games, you will really have a blast with this show. I'm really looking forward to future
seasons of this show. I think in general the show is an 8/10 but this would easily be a 9/10 for people
who get all or most of the references from this show. For me as a person that does play a lot of games
and get the references made by the show I will give this show 9/10 in terms of how much I enjoyed it.
