Umbrella Academy Season 2 Review

This season of Umbrella Academy was crazier and wilder than the first, especially the final episode.

This time Five and gang are sent back scattered across 1960-1963 Dallas. The opening sequence of this

season shows a nuclear war happening during 1963 only for Five to be saved by Hazel who is

unfortunately gunned down by commission muscle known as the Swedes, three Swedish brothers. With

10 days left to a nuclear apocalypse, Five has to find the rest of his family who has been scattered

across Dallas over the span of three years. Of course, things aren't as simple as just reuniting together,

all of the Umbrella Academy besides Five and Diego has started new lives and relationships that they

can't bring themselves to just abandon. Diego stuck in a loony bin for the first episode is still dealing

with his daddy issues from the first episode and still fixated on being a hero. This season managed to

give every person from the Umbrella Academy a decent story arc and unlike the previous season

undercutting Alison and Luther who really had not much to do in the first season. They were even able

to give Ben who is intertwined with Klaus a pretty good storyline. Although I still feel that Luther had

the least compelling story arc and ultimately it got concluded before the second half of the season.

Unlike Alison, Diego and Vanya, who had their personal storylines till the end of the season. My

favorite storyline to follow though was Five's who really is the most responsible one in this

dysfunctional family, he is forced to do all the dirty work in dealing with the commission and trying to

find them a way back home without causing an apocalypse. Five also had all the best action scenes,

from murdering the commission board to fighting a version of himself, which allowed us to see a fight

that involved two people that could teleport.

The Umbrella Academy season 2, episode 7 recap - "Oga for Oga"

My second favorite storyline is actually Lila's because of her relationship with her adopted mother the

Handler who miraculously survived a gunshot to the head in the previous season. Seeing her conflicted

with obeying her mother and following her heart was very compelling especially with the revelation

that is also a child with special powers. Honestly, there were so many stand out moments this season

especially in the last two episodes. One of my favorites being Reginald Hargreeves taking his mask off

going full predator on his unsuspecting colleagues. Ultimately this season improves on the writing and

action of its previous season and is very much a must-watch if you liked the first season. Overall I

would give this season of Umbrella Academy a 9 out of 10, I really enjoyed watching it and never felt

bored of a single minute of it. I very much look forward to season 3, especially after the teaser they

gave us at the end.
