Transformers: War For Cybertron (Chapter 1: Siege) Review
Transformers War For Cybertron Chapter 1: Siege, is the newest animated show of the Transformers
IP that is on Netflix. The first part of a trilogy that consists of 6 episodes is attempting to retell the
origin story of the war between Autobots and Decepticons. Taking place on the homeworld of all
Transformers, Cybertron, we are first introduced to a very different version of Bumblebee that we are
familiar with from the live-action movies. Talking normally unlike his movie counterpart and not yet
an Autobot, this Bumblebee is an Energon scavenger that is only looking out for himself as the War
rages on between the Autobots and Decepticons. These 6 episodes set up a lot of plot points for the rest
of the trilogy and give great depictions of your favorite transformers like Star-Scream, Shockwave,
Bumblebee, Megatron, and of course Optimus. We are given more context and detail for the
relationship between Optimus and Megatron which makes them more complex than just enemies.
We actually see plenty of character development for the Transformers unlike the movies, there are no
humans to waste scream time on which, already makes this show a lot better than the Michael Bay
trilogy. This series also dives deep into the nature of Autobots and Decepticons, which makes it out to
be more complex than just good and evil. We specifically see a difference in belief between
Transformers among their own factions, how not Autobots agree with Optimus's fight for freedom, and
how some Decepticons are against Megatron's plan to wipe out the Autobots. The series also
introduces a lot of details about Cybertron, the Transformers Society before the war, and the Allspark.
The animation is pretty decent, not the highest quality but it works and doesn't take away your
enjoyment of the show. Action is actually pretty scarce for the first 4 episodes with a majority of the
action taking place in the last 2 episodes, characters actually feel mortal and can kick the bucket
anytime. The action is actually pretty realistic in the sense that gunfights are pretty tactical and there
isn't one character that kills everyone without any risk to themselves. Overall the writing was the
highlight of the show and I really enjoyed this new take on the Transformers series. I would give this
first part a solid 7.5 out of 10. I really have high hopes for this trilogy and I am looking forward to the
next 2 parts.
