Clone Wars Season 7 Ep 7 "Dangerous Debt" Review
Episode 7 of season 7 of The Clone Wars was very dark and real. We got to hear the actual tragic
backstory of Trace and Rafa that involved the Jedi and their parents' deaths. The rest of the episode
was an action-packed prison break out that brought out Ahsoka's quick thinking and hand to hand
combat skills with some great moments with Trace too. Ahsoka still hiding her true identity as a
former Jedi from the sisters had to use her force abilities in discreet ways in order to conceal her true
abilities. This, in a sense, handicapped her and coupled the fact that she doesn't have her lightsabers
anymore made it more believable why they were ultimately unable to escape from the Pikes at the
end of the episode. Having seen Ahsoka evade capture from the Republic and the Jedi while she was
framed by Barriss Offee, it wouldn't have been believable that she couldn't evade the Pikes if she
wasn't handicapped as such. This episode also teases how ultimately the trio will escape the Pikes
with the appearance of Mandalorians that seem to be on a mission against the crime syndicate.
This also seems to be a set up of how Ahsoka will ultimately come back to help take back
Mandalore from Darth Maul at the last 4 episodes of this final season. I really appreciate this episode
and arc for giving a new perspective on the Republic and Jedi Order from an outside point of view.
The backstory of how Jedi Master Luminara ultimately had to make a decision that caused the deaths
of Trace and Rafa's parents, not only fleshed out the sisters as characters but also how the decisions
made by Jedi could still negatively affect innocent people despite having good intentions. Although
it got even darker with the fact that the Jedi Order and Republic completely abandoned the sisters
to fend for themselves right after the death of their parents which doesn't sound right at all. This
new perspective that Ahsoka is exposed too is a great way to transition Ahsoka into her future self
we see in Rebels and explaining why she ultimately chooses to be a Grey Jedi later on. Ultimately I
thought the action set piece of escaping the Pikes was very good but what evaluates this episode for
me was the backstory for Trace and Rafa that really adds a lot to character development and overall
world-building for the Star Wars universe during the era of Jedi Order. I give this episode a 9 out of
10 in terms of enjoyment. I just think this arc is a lot more enjoyable story-wise than the previous arc
with the Bad Batch.
