Clone Wars Season 7 Ep 10 " Phantom Apprentice" Review
My god, this episode was as glorious if not even cooler than the last episode and I thought last
episode was one of the best episodes of the whole series. Holy shit, the amount of fluid integration
of this episode into the events of the Revenge of the Sith was mind-blowing. It was expected that
there was going to be cross over between this arc and Revenge of the Sith but seeing it first hand is
another matter entirely. This episode starts with Ahsoka fighting off Maul with the help of Rex
and but not before Maul drops Darth Sidious's name. Right after this, we cut into a meeting between
Ahsoka, Rex, Bo Katan, and Obi-Wan where we get the bombshell that Count Dooku is dead. This
immediately tells us that while Ahsoka was dealing with Maul, the opening sequence of Revenge of
the Sith where Anakin and Obi-Wan fight Dooku has already happened. Putting this episode's events
in sync with Revenge of the Sith officially. We also learn that at this moment Obi-Wan is about to
confront General Grievous on Utapau. Meaning that order 66 is very close to being enacted.
The next important scene is when Maul finally learns all about Darth Sidious's plan to topple the
Republic and Jedi Order by ripping it out of a clone trooper he kidnapped. The final half of the
episode is a glorious confrontation between Ahsoka and Maul while Dark Sun syndicate members
launch a massive assault on the 501st occupying the city. This is where Maul tries to convince
Ahsoka that the Republic and the Jedi Order are already done for, that the only way for them to
defeat Sidious is to join forces. But as soon as Maul says that Anakin is destined to destroy
everything on the behalf of Sidious is when Ahsoka immediately decides to fight Maul because
she can not believe that her former master would ever fall to the dark side.
While the two were talking, outside the throne room of Mandalore raged a fierce battle with
explosions lighting up the city. The lightsaber duel between Maul and Ahsoka is one of the most
intense and best executed fights that this series has to offer, coupled with the atmosphere and context
of the situation, this was easily one of the best fights of this entire series. It showcased a full power
Maul versus peak condition Ahsoka which pitted power against agility. Ahsoka ultimately comes out
on top, despite being disarmed by Maul first due to his sheer power but Ahsoka's hand to hand
combat in combination with her agility proved too much for Maul. The episode ends off with Maul
being captured and his forces beaten. This was so fucking good, easily 10 out of 10 in terms of
enjoyment. The last episode was crazy good for different reasons but this episode really got me with
the ease and fluidity of connections between this episode and the events of Revenge of the Sith plus
the amazing confrontation between Maul and Ahsoka made this episode extraordinary. I'm going to
wait for the last two episodes before deciding which episode was my favorite because at this point it
could be that the last episode could end up being my favorite with how things are going. I'm so
fucking hyped to see the last two episodes!
