Castlevania Season 3 Review
The third season of the animated adaption of the beloved Castlevania games is here and it is as
amazing as the first two seasons, but this time there are 10 episodes instead of 4. Taking place a few
months after the last season, we as an audience get to see the aftermath of Dracula's death and what
various characters such as Alucard, Trevor, Sypha, Isaac, and Hector are doing. This season is very
much a season about world-building and setting up for the future of the series rather than a goal-
driven story like the first two seasons. The show is as brutal as ever with the action and scenery,
while also having a lot more time for character development.
We are introduced to many more
fantastic characters that really get their time to shine and develop as full-fledged characters unlike.
Every new character introduced either expanded the lore of the world or helped develop existing
characters or sometimes both. The vampire sisters of Carmilla added this great sibling dynamic
that humanized the vampires and made them more relatable. The Captain and Miranda were great
characters that brought out both Isaac's mindfulness and hatred to humanity. I loved his
interactions with these two oddball characters. Taka and Sumi the two siblings that Alucard
takes in to teach monster hunting and magic, were nice additions but like Alucard this season really
had nothing to do compared to the other groups of characters. They do end up affecting Alucard
as a character in a major way. The Judge and Saint Germain, two characters that play a big part with
Trevor and Sypha storyline, play a good part of representing different facets of human life in the
world of Castlevania hidden evil and hidden kindness. The Judge playing as respected local
governor of a small rural town and Saint Germain a scholar magician that stands out like a sore
thumb in a group of townsfolk. Saint Germain is actually pretty developed throughout this season
and his backstory really adds to the lore surrounding magic and alchemy in this world. I really
enjoyed the character moments that we got this season and there were a lot of them. The Judge on
the other hand turned out to be a more interesting character at the end of the series. The writers
were able to really develop characters this season because of the extra episodes and it really
shows. Isaac's journey for revenge against Hector brings him to meet characters that change his
thoughts about humanity and himself, this includes The Captain and Miranda. Hector on the other
side gains a newfound appreciation of Vampire culture and begins to do things for his own benefit
rather than for other people. In the end though Hector is getting shafted very hard like the last
season and is in a worst situation than before at the end of this season. Alucard throughout the season
has to deal with his loneliness and get over his guilt from killing his father. The end of this season
finds him quite angry with humanity. The rather shocking part of this season was that Trevor and
Sypha had little to no character development besides finding happiness with monster hunting and
each other. This isn't a bad thing considering that they were the main focus of the first two seasons
and now other characters can get their share of the limelight. Overall the end of this season really
brought us to question who the real monsters are and if killing humanity would be such a bad idea.
The animation is as top-notch as the past two seasons, although there is only one major wide scale
action sequence near the end of the series. But that one major action sequence bouncing back
between the different groups of characters and the final confrontation with Trevor and Sypha were
absolutely amazing. I have no doubt we are in for more amazing action sequences for what is being
set up for next season. OverallI really loved this season of Castlevania and will this season a 9 out of
10 in terms of enjoyment.I highly recommend bingeing this whole season if you haven't already.
