Altered Carbon Season 2 Review
Season 2 of Altered Carbon takes place thirty years after the first season, with Takeshi Kovacs still
on his desperate search for his former lover, Quellcrist Falconer. Takeshi finds himself back at
Harlan's World in a military sleeve(Anthony Mackie), on the run for a murder he didn't commit
which leads him down a complex conspiracy that somehow involves his former lover Quell.
This season in terms of action has it in spades and it's awesome to see Anthony Mackie go all out
in this lead role. I thought that Anthony fit perfectly with the role and didn't miss a beat playing as
Takeshi and if this is a preview of what he can offer in a TV series, we're in for a treat for Falcon and
Winter Soldier. Poe, the charming AI that we got to know in the first season is back with his own
interesting storyline that really grabs the audience in the heartstrings. Hands down, he was my
favorite character of this season due to the arc he was given. Besides Poe, I thought the new
additions, Dig 301 and Trepp were not bad and had pretty fleshed out storylines.
Although Dig 301's storyline is more so used to prop up Poe's story, so she had the least character
development out of everyone in the main cast. There are more than one antagonist in this season
and they all have their own motives. First, there is Danica Harlan, who I believed was a very one-
dimensional antagonist initially turns out to be way more cunning and interesting than I gave her
credit for. She played a way bigger role to the story than perceived and is a good example of not
judging a book by its cover. Jaeger who shows up in a different sleeve and under a different name
is back hungry for revenge more than ever but ultimately is very shallow in terms of character depth
which is fine since there are more antagonists to make up for his lack of depth. The final main
antagonist that is the entity possessing Quell is quite an interesting character because of their
backstory and connection with the whole plot of this season. It was fun piecing together the secrets
of the entity and their motive to murdering certain people through the season. It really added
back the mystery element that season one had. Overall I thought a lot of characters had their moments
and the plot was entertaining. One problem with the writing though was that the pacing was all over
the place and I could see people not liking this season as much as the second one due to this issue.
In the end though I thought season 2 of Altered Carbon was very good in terms of characters, plot,
and action. In terms of enjoyment, I would give the show an 8.5 out of 10, I look forward to seeing
more of this universe and of my favorite AI Poe.
