Clone Wars Season 7 Ep 2 "A Distant Echo" Review
The second episode of the final season of Clone Wars: A Distant Echo picks up with Rex discussing
Anakin about a mission to save Echo who we are led to believe is still alive from the last episode.
We also get a moment with Anakin and a very pregnant Padme. The rest of the episode is focused
on the mission to locate and rescue Echo from Separatist hands. Landing on the planet that Echo is
located on, the party consisting of the Bad Batch, Rex, and Anakin initially encounter the local
people and ask for their help to bring them to the facilities which are holding Echo. Throughout the
mission the Bad Batch doubt Echo's survival and it becomes a point of conflict between them
and Rex who is emotionally driven at this point to rescue Echo. Ultimately after some blasting
and slashing a bunch funky looking droids, we finally get the reunion of Rex and Echo at the end
of the episode. With the latter of which having been experimented on by the group known as the
Techno Union who are technically neutral in the War but are secretly working for the Separatists.
This episode in particular was primarily focusing on Rex and Anakin. Like we have seen throughout
the series, Rex will do everything for his fellow Clones and Jedi generals. This isn't the first time we
have seen Rex get all emotional but it is one of the first times where other characters have pointed it
out. In particular, it is pointed out by Obi-Wan who has a very short appearance in this episode and
subsequently Anakin. It really demonstrates how Anakin's emotional and rash personality has
rubbed off on Rex. Overall I thought this episode was good but compared to the first episode traded
off action for character moments. Which isn't a bad thing, yet I found this episode not as enjoyable
as the first episode. I would give this episode 7.5 out of 10 in terms of enjoyment. I'm honestly
looking forward more too the latter half of the season where we get to see Ahsoka again and the
event dubbed the Siege of Mandalore. But hopefully, this Echo storyline will start picking up and
surprise everyone with order 66 related plot points.
